PNSY Submarine Maintenance Enclosures - Kittery, ME
Methuen Construction created, shipped and installed new structural steel enclosures that house Virginia-class submarines during major maintenance availabilities at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The enclosures are modular units that fit together seamlessly, but are built to 1/16th inch tolerance across their 60 foot length, allowing the connections that bolt the units together to line up for quick assembly and disassembly. This complex project required Methuen Construction to continuously monitor and adjust production rates and sequence delivery schedules that corresponded with the shipyard’s critical timetable.
