Leading with Safety Recognition

A subcontracted crane company, Bay Crane, was hired to set a trommel which weighed 55,000 pounds. Bay Crane's rigger and signal person rigged the trommel and began to slowly lift it off the truck. Due to the rigging configuration that was used, the center of gravity changed, causing the trommel to roll 25 degrees towards the crane. No injuries or property damage occurred but the project team properly reported the near miss to ensure it was investigated to prevent reoccurrence.
